Direct Battery with Inline Fuse

For trunk lighting or higher-powered strips, a direct battery connection with an inline fuse is a solid pick. Connect the positive wire through the fuse directly to the battery positive terminal, and attach the negative to a clean chassis ground or the battery negative. Place the fuse within 6 inches of the battery terminal so a short anywhere down the line blows the fuse before it can damage anything. With power connected, turn on the kit and check every section. Give each strip a little wiggle at the connections — a flickering section usually points to a loose splice. Verify the controller works, the colors switch correctly, and nothing gets hot to the touch.

Once everything checks out, secure the loose wiring, tuck the controller somewhere accessible, and put the trim panels back. Your install should look clean, stay put under vibration, and work every time you flip it on.
